Lavender Ribbon Campaign

When you think of a red ribbon, what comes to mind … AIDS? How about a pink one … breast cancer? When you think of a lavender ribbon, what comes to mind? Well, through our Lavender Ribbon Campaign, we hope that you and many others who may be unaware of the issues associated with seizure disorders will be able to say, "The lavender ribbon is associated with epilepsy."

Why a Lavender Ribbon?

The lavender flower is traditionally associated with solitude, symbolizing the feelings of isolation and seclusion that people living with epilepsy and seizure disorders often experience.

Our Lavender Ribbon Campaign

Epilepsy is a misunderstood neurological disorder, and our Lavender Ribbon Campaign will allow us to communicate the message about what epilepsy is and how it affects people's lives. People generally ask, "Why are you wearing a lavender ribbon", and in this way awareness is created and misconceptions are erased. Our campaign is carried out within high schools, universities, hospitals, community centres and through local chapters.

People support causes that they know and understand, and this can only be achieved by increasing awareness. Funds raised from our Lavender Ribbon Campaign will be directed towards community development and to provide programs and services for those living with epilepsy. Epilepsy Ontario believes that creating awareness will allow future success in caring for these individuals.
