UMED - Helping Save Lives

We, the staff at every chapter of Epilepsy Ontario, know how important it is to have medical records available, particularly if you – or your child, parent or other loved ones – have epilepsy, a chronic illness, or other special needs.

A new Canadian service, UMED, now provides a medical records storage system to help you manage your medical information and make it available to emergency physicians anywhere in the world, in any language, 24-hours-a-day.

"The information in your medical records, such as current medical conditions, allergies and medications, can speed your treatment, reduce complications, even save your life," explains Armand Benoit, president of Universal Medical History & Information.

The UMED medical record is the most comprehensive available anywhere. You, your doctor or your loved one's doctor fill out the registration questionnaire: a UMED record can include a person's unique family medical history, alternative medications, immunizations, living will, advance directives and organ donor preferences.

To ensure your privacy, only verified medical personnel or callers with your password may access UMED records.

UMED provides peace of mind.

UMED is the only service designed by physicians, with a Call Centre staffed by health-care professionals, that provides secure, 24-hour access to your full medical history. Whether you are a caregiver or parent, or want your own medical history and information available in an emergency, this system relieves the stress of worrying about how you will communicate vital medical information. UMED is your strongest protection against medical errors, delays and emergencies.

UMED helps you manage your health care.

UMED provides information for emergencies as well as day-to-day health-care management. Regardless of how many doctors you see or how often you have to change doctors, UMED ensures that each will have your entire medical history in the office or emergency room the minute it is needed.
