Seizures & Tuberous Sclerosis
Tuberous Sclerosis (TS), also called Bourneville Disease, is an inherited multisystem neurocutaneous disorder characterized clinically by epilepsy, mental retardation (to varying degrees), and retinal and skin lesions. TS causes multiple malformations and hamartomas in both the brain and other organs, including the nervous system.
Recurring seizures usually begin by the middle of the first year of life.
As many as 92% of persons with TS have seizures, including myoclonic seizures, infantile spasms, partial seizures and secondarily generalized seizures.
