    Literacy Options
    Literacy Options is an educational/pre-vocational program based solely on students' individual goals and needs. The program is completely self-paced and encourages growth and independence.

    Linkages

        A 3-day program specifically designed for new Canadians, committed to looking for employment.

        Eligibility
          • New Canadians, eligible to work in Canada
          • Individuals who have never worked in their profession in Canada
          • ESL level 4

        Prerequisites
          • Familiar with keyboard, mouse and Windows 3.1 or later

      Résumé Clinic (approved by Ontario Works)
        • Walk away with an effective résumé
        • 1 hour follow-up with a counsellor


      Computer Training (approved by Ontario Works)
        • Training in Microsoft Office '97 (use and integration of MSWord, Excel and Power Point in Windows)
        • 2 Weeks = 50 hours + 10 hours of self-paced practice

    Corbrook
      Corbrook offers services in Scarborough and North York.

      Work Ability Assessment
        • Identifies barriers to employment
        • Assess return to work capabilities
        • Recommends strategies for securing long term employment
          Duration of Assessment: 2 weeks
          Fee: $600


      Work Hardening

      The goal of this program is to improve the client's physical tolerance in the workplace, enhancing the opportunity for employment within the current competitive marketplace.
          Duration: 4-8 weeks
          Fee: $275 per week (on-site)


      Work Trails

      The client's ability to perform, achieve work tolerance, and reach employer productivity expectations will be evaluated. A comprehensive report will be given out to help recommend realistic job options in keeping with skills, abilities and the labour market.
          Duration: 2-8 weeks
          Fee: $295 per week (on-site)


      Employment Readiness Training

      The professional vocational staff at Corbrook provides:
        • Potential job opportunities
        • Knowledge to find hidden employment opportunities
        • Practical strategies for successful job search
        • résumé writing skills
        • Exploration of the current labour market
        • many other useful service
          Fees: Group program: $495 per week
          Individual Program: $650 per week


      Supported Employment Services

      Job Developer and Job Coaches successfully secure placements for clients who are subject to catastrophic impairments. They work to ensure long-term job placement success. Students may enter the program on their own initiative or through an organization such as O.D.S.P. If eligible, organizations might be able to help you pay for Corbrooks fees.

      Fees: $45 per hour

            Internship Programs


            Career Edge

              Ability Edge

              Ability Edge offers 6-, 9- and 12-month internship programs to persons with disabilities who are not students. Interns have a choice of different types of jobs including customer service, human resources, information technology, and investment banking.

              Ability Edge offers a 5-day orientation session or interns to help prepare interns.

              Orientation sessions include workshops on disclosure, advocacy, and employer expectations.

              Eligibility
                • Must be a person with a disability
                • Must have no career-related work experience
                • Must be eligible to work in Canada
                • Must be interested in working in the financial services sector
                • Must not previously have been a Career Edge intern

              Information/Registration
                Visit the Career Edge web site and fill out the registration form. After successfully registering, you can view a current list of available internship opportunities. Additional information, including contact addresses where you can send your résumé and necessary covering letter, is available.

                Only those internships available in the Greater Toronto Area and in 1 of the 5 participating banks (Toronto Dominion Bank Financial Group, Royal Bank of Canada, Scotiabank, Bank of Montreal, and Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce) qualify for the Ability Edge program.
