October is...
Hallowe'en, the start of hockey season, time to pull out the comfy sweaters, but it's also Brain Tumor Awareness Month.
Did you know that more than 10,000 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumor each year? So what exactly is a brain tumor? It is a growth of abnormal cells within or around the structure of the brain. The signs and symptoms of brain tumors can vary greatly, depending on the location of the growth. They can cause nausea, visual disturbances, paralysis, personality changes and seizures.
As a matter of fact, brain tumors are one of the identifiable causes of epilepsy. Keep an eye out for information sessions, or for people selling buttons to raise awareness of brain tumors and their effects throughout the province.
