Children's Camp Helped by Shell Canada

Epilepsy Ontario recently received a $1,000 grant from Shell Canada's Community Service Fund. These funds were awarded to recognize and support Nancy Kimura, a Shell Canada retiree. Nancy regularly volunteers with Epilepsy Ontario as the Epilepsy Camp Co-ordinator. The funds will be used to develop, publish and distribute a brochure about the Spike & Wave Club, EO's children's camp. "The camp would not be able to sponsor children living with epilepsy without Nancy's support," said Dianna Findlay, Executive Director of EO.

Kori McNaught of Shell Canada's Public Affairs said "Shell believes that contributions of time, effort and caring to non-profit organizations benefit the entire community. Through the Community Service Fund, Shell recognizes and supports Shell people who give personal time to non-profit organizations on a regular, volunteer basis. We have supported Shell volunteers through the Community Service Fund for over 20 years. In 1997, Shell Canada granted more than $240,000 to over 200 non-profit organizations across Canada."

Epilepsy Ontario sponsors a winter youth conference with Epilepsy Association, Metro Toronto, and both a junior and a senior summer camp. The summer camp may be the first time a child living with epilepsy can share experiences and stories in an integrated setting.
