Acupressure and Shiatsu

Acupressure and shiatsu work with the same healing points used in acupuncture, but stimulates these vital sites with finger pressure, rather than inserting fine needles. Acupressure is a traditional Chinese therapy (termed shiatsu in Japan) that involves the practice of applying deep finger pressure at specific points along the body's energy channels called meridians.

According to principles of Oriental medicine, the body's vital energy (ch'i or qi in Chinese and ki in Japanese) flows along fourteen meridians which connect to the vital organs of the body. If there is a block in the flow of energy, ch'i is believed to cause disease and discomfort in the associated organs and tissue. The treatment is usually performed on a mat or massage table, and involves the practitioner administering pressure to various points on the body using his/her elbows, feet, thumbs, and fingertips. A typical session lasts from thirty minutes to one hour.

There are no indications that acupressure provides a beneficial effect in the treatment of epilepsy; however, the treatment is effective to  release tension, increase circulation, reduce pain and develop vibrant health. Acupressure can also be easily combined with oil massage. Discuss your treatment with your practitioner before beginning any alternative therapy.
